PREMIO PAGANINI Newsletter Quarta Corda
Genoa for Paganini Just one year after the last "Premio Paganini", the City of Genoa has renewed its commitment to enhancing not only the competition, but also the other initiatives created within the framework of the competition, such as the "Paganiniana". The goal is that of bringing together the major institutions of the City (the governments of the City, Province and Region, as well as the University) around the figure of Niccolò Paganini, to give life to a single project involving various aspects. One aspect is historical by now: the International Violin Competition that passed the 50th anniversary from its founding; another are the concerts of the "Paganiniana" Festival. Then there is the research, the studies and editorial activity with a study center dedicated to Paganini, and finally the violin making, with the preservation and use of the "Cannone", the great musician's favorite instrument that he bequeathed to his native city. A single, transversal project that ties together the various souls of Paganini: the innovation, creativity, virtuosity, performance and research that caused him to explore new musical territory. This route, begun with the signing of an agreement with one of the major musical institutions, the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, will continue with an understanding among the city's major institutions to collaborate together and give life to a "Paganini coordination" able to make maximum use of new contributions as well, such as those on sound techniques investigated by the University of Genoa. I hope that many of you will be able to come along with us on this voyage, and come to Genoa for the next "Premio Paganini". We are expecting you!
