The Winners of the Paganini Competition come back to Genoa...
The next edition of "Paganiniana", the festival dedicated to Paganini, will be held in Genoa at the Carlo Felice Opera House from October, 12th till 27th 2003.
The set of events will welcome several internationally famous violinists, most of whom have been winners of former Paganini Competition editions.
Leonidas Kavakos (winner of the Paganini Competition in 1988) opens the "Paganinana". He will play accompanied by Camerata Salzburg on October, 12th, on the Christopher Columbus Celebration Day. On this occasion he will be granted by the Municipality of Genoa to play the violin "Guarneri del Gesù" (1743) that belonged to Niccolò Paganini.
Mengla Huang and Natalia Lomeiko, winners of the Paganini Competition respectively in 2002, 2001 and 2000, will play a leading role in the "Paganini Marathon" that takes place on October, 20th. During the concert the two violinists will alternate on the stage of the Carlo Felice Opera House. The concert program is expected to be a "surprise".
Sayaka Shoji, winner of the Paganini Competition in 1999 and one of the youngest gifted violinists, will play on October, 25th accompanied by the Carlo Felice Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Neville Marriner.
